Overturned Trailer Spills Propane Onto State Road 60 Near Polk

An overturned food trailer leaking propane gas forced the closure of State Road 60 just west of County Line Road for two hours on Tuesday.

PLANT CITY, FL -- An overturned food trailer leaking propane gas forced the closure of State Road 60 just west of County Line Road for two hours on Tuesday.

According to Hillsborough County Fire Rescue, around 12:50 p.m., a van with a trailer attached flipped over. In the process, its 100-gallon tank of propane gas was damaged and leaked onto the road.

Hillsborough firefighters were joined by Polk County Fire Rescue, the Polk County Sheriff's Office, the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office and the Florida Highway Patrol to help clear the mess. There were no serious injuries and but Hillsborough's Hazardous Incidents Team had to use a flare to burn off the potentially dangerous gas that had leaked onto the road.

The tank valve was too damaged to shut off so firefighters used water fog to suppress the vapors.
