PLANT CITY, FL – A 53-year-old Plant City man is in serious condition following an accident Tuesday, July 17 at 6:21 p.m. on U.S. 92 east of Park Road.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, a 1998 Chevrolet pickup truck driven by Raymond D. Shipley was traveling west on U.S. 92 and a semi-tractor trailer truck driven by Wayne D. Newton, 64, of Auburndale was headed east on U.S. 92.

Troopers say traffic in front of the pickup came to a sudden stop and Shipley took evasive action to avoid rear-ending the vehicle in front of him. In the process, he swerved into the eastbound lane of U.S. 92 and struck the semi truck. Both vehicles spun before coming to a rest along the south shoulder of the road.
