Small Plane Lands In Plant City Pond Following Engine Failure

The pilot was forced to land in an unpopulated area near the intersection of Colson and Hawkins roads.

PLANT CITY, FL — The Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office said two people aboard a single-engine plane that landed in a stormwater pond in Plant City Thursday morning were fortunate to escape injury.

The sheriff's office said the plane, an Aeronca Champion 7AC, took off from a Lakeland airport and began experiencing engine failure. The pilot was forced to land in an unpopulated area near the intersection of Colson and Hawkins roads.
