• Groundbreaking set for North Port VA Clinic (yoursun.com) — Port Charlotte veterans may see their local VA clinic protected even as a larger replacement facility breaks ground in nearby North Port this Friday. A House-passed amendment from Rep. Greg Steube would block funding to close the Port Charlotte clinic on Tamiami Trail, aiming to keep care accessible for the thousands of Charlotte County veterans it serves each year.
   

• Charlotte County recognizes National Economic Development Week (yoursun.com) — Charlotte County commissioners in Port Charlotte have officially recognized May 10–16 as National Economic Development Week, spotlighting local efforts to grow jobs and support businesses. The proclamation honors partnerships among SCORE, local chambers, schools, and the county’s economic development office that focus on workforce development, site readiness, and small business support.
   

• Florida State gets second prediction to land key QB target (usatoday.com) — Port Charlotte football fans may see their junior quarterback, Logan Flaherty, land at Florida State, as recruiting analysts now twice predict he’ll commit to the Seminoles’ 2027 class. After a strong season at Port Charlotte High, he’s back on the market following a decommitment from UCF, with FSU battling Rutgers for his pledge.
