• Port St. Lucie approves higher annual trash fee for residents despite pickup woes (cw34.com) — Port St. Lucie residents will see their annual trash assessment rise to $482.16 per home starting October 1, adding about $1.24 a month to property tax bills. City officials say the increase is required under the solid waste contract and comes even as residents continue to complain about service quality and prepare to vote on restoring twice-weekly pickup in November.
   

• A tornado makes landfall in Port St. Lucie (weatherandradar.com) — A brief but intense landspout tornado cut a 2.1‑mile path through Port St. Lucie neighborhoods near the St. Lucie River, damaging 20 to 30 homes, roofs, fences, and pool structures with winds up to 75 mph. The storm crossed the river as a waterspout before dissipating, highlighting how these ground-up tornadoes can be harder to predict in our area.
   

• Port St. Lucie football team misses senior player detained by ICE (tcpalm.com) — Port St. Lucie High's football team is missing senior leader Emmanuel Nelson, who remains held at the St. Lucie County Jail after ICE placed a hold on him following a traffic stop. Coaches and teammates say his absence has shaken the Jaguars early in the season, and they're hoping he can return to the field later this fall.
