SAFETY HARBOR, FL — A woman suffered life-threatening injuries in a domestic-related shooting outside a Safety Harbor bar Tuesday night, and a man who fled with a young child was later taken into custody in the Tarpon Woods area, according to multiple reports.
Deputies with the Pinellas County Sheriff's Office responded to Harbor Bar, at 840 Main St., just before 9 p.m. after reports of a domestic-related shooting, Tampa Bay 28 said.
The woman was taken to Orlando Health Bayfront Hospital in St. Petersburg with life-threatening injuries, according to IONTB. Preliminary information indicated she may also have been struck by the suspect's vehicle.
The suspect, identified by IONTB as 40-year-old Christopher Dodge Smith, fled in a vehicle with a young child inside.
Deputies later located the vehicle near Valemoor Drive and Ridgemoor Boulevard in the Tarpon Woods area, where Smith surrendered during a traffic stop, reports said.
The child was found safe and wasn't injured in the incident, WFLA said.
Smith, of Safety Harbor, was booked into the Pinellas County Jail and faces charges of attempted second-degree murder and child abuse, PCSO jail records show.
