One person is dead following an explosion and fire at a home in the Colonial Oaks subdivision in Sarasota.
The Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office said emergency workers were called to the scene at 2141 Cork Oak St. around 9:24 p.m. Thursday.

Firefighters worked to extinguish the blaze and the scene was secured overnight for further investigation, an email to media from the sheriff’s office stated.
“At this time we can confirm one fatality,” sheriff’s office spokeswoman Wendy Rose wrote in the email.

The agency is not releasing further details at this time, nor has it released the name of the person who died.
The State Fire Marshal, sheriff’s office and Sarasota County Fire Department are conducting a joint investigation.
