1 Killed In North Jetty Park Shooting: Sarasota County Sheriff

A Port Charlotte man was shot and killed after an argument at North Jetty Park in Nokomis Sunday night, the sheriff's office said.

NOKOMIS, FL — One person was killed in a shooting at North Jetty Park, 100 Casey Key Road, in Nokomis Sunday night, according to a Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office news release.

Deputies who responded to the park around 7:15 p.m. found the victim, 25-year-old Octavious Cornelius Lee Cummings Jr. of Port Charlotte, dead.

Investigators believe the shooting resulted from an argument that happened at the park, the sheriff’s office said.

The park was temporarily closed Sunday evening into early Monday morning, but has since reopened.
