100-Pound Tortoise Creates Stir in Sarasota

Deputies used Facebook to find its owner.

Why did the tortoise cross the road?

That was the question Sarasota County’s Animal Services team wanted to answer after finding a 100-pound tortoise blocking the roadway at Webber Street and Honore Avenue Thursday.

The critter weighed in around 100 pounds and appeared to have been a pet to someone in the area. County officials, however, just weren’t sure who that someone was. So, the Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office took to Facebook.

After posting a few photos of their unusual find, owner Ryan Adams came forward. The traffic-blocker’s name is Dozer and it seems he created a hole in Adams’ backyard fence and made a break for it.

It’s unclear at this time how soon the not-so-little guy will be going home.
