2 Fatal Hit-And-Run Crashes On Fruitville Road Investigated: Police

Sarasota police are looking for witnesses to either of two fatal hit-and-run crashes that happened on Fruitville Road Friday night.

SARASOTA, FL — Two fatal hit-and-run crashes on Fruitville Road are under investigation, according to a Sarasota Police Department news release.

Officers don’t believe the crashes, which both took place late Friday night, are connected.

The first hit-and-run crash happened near Fruitville Road and Orange Avenue around 11:30 p.m. The victim, a 56-year-old Sarasota man, was brought to Sarasota Memorial Hospital with life-threatening injuries, police said.

There were obvious signs that he had been hit by a vehicle. He died from his injuries at the hospital. There were no known witnesses to this crash.

The second hit-and-run crash happened near Fruitville Road and Beneva Road at about 11:50 p.m., SPD said.

When officers with the agency’s traffic unit responded to the first crash, they were notified of the second hit-and-run. Officers found the second crash victim, a 64-year-old Tennessee man, dead at the scene, police said.

Witnesses told officers that the victim was hit by a vehicle, and the driver and vehicle did not remain at the scene.
