2 FL Cities Named To World’s Greatest 100 Places By Time Magazine

Time magazine included Sarasota and Orlando on its World's 100 Greatest Places of 2021 list.

FLORIDA — Two Florida cities were named to Time magazine’s list of top global destinations.

Sarasota and Orlando were named to the magazine’s World’s 100 Greatest Places of 2021 list alongside such locales as Bangkok, Cairo and Maldives.

The Sarasota listing highlighted Florida’s “growing Gulf Coast scene.”

“Miami has long held the reins on all things young and hip in Florida. But there’s something special percolating along the once sleepy Gulf Coast these days,” according to Time.

Calling Sarasota a “vital cultural capital,” the magazine lauded the new Sarasota Art Museum of Ringling College and the city’s plans to redevelop 53 acres into a bayfront public park. This project, The Bay, includes the Mangrove Bayou Walkway, which opened in April.

The new Lido Beach Pavilion and the Resort at Longboat Key Club also received a nod from the magazine.

Meanwhile, Orlando was praised as the home of Walt Disney World – “the crown jewel of American theme parks,” according to Time - and Universal.

Sarasota was also recently named one of the top 10 Best Places to live in the U.S. in 2021-22 by U.S. News & World Report, landing at No. 9 on the list.
