After Fight Over Shared Boyfriend, 2 Women Charged: Sarasota Police
Two women face felony charges after attacking another woman over a shared boyfriend, the Sarasota Police Department said.
SARASOTA, FL — Two women face felony charges after a fight over a man that started on social media and led to them attacking the victim at her home, authorities said.
Kaylie Moya, 23, of Sarasota and Shakeria Mitchell, 27, of Palmetto were charged with robbery, theft of a firearm and armed burglary — all felonies — as well as a misdemeanor battery charge, according to a Sarasota Police Department news release.
The two women worked as caretakers at a local assisted living facility, the agency said.

Moya began arguing with the victim, a 28-year-old woman whose name is being withheld under Marsy’s Law, about their shared boyfriend via Instagram messages on Friday around 9:30 p.m.
The victim told detectives that she and Moya had both been in “on again, off again” relationships with the boyfriend for months, police said.

She claimed that she originally messaged Moya with the intention of coming to an agreement and putting their fighting over their boyfriend behind them.
During the conversation, Moya allegedly became upset and felt she was being accused of stealing the boyfriend from the victim, SPD said. The discussion was never resolved, and Moya stopped replying to messages.
Later that night, around 11 p.m., Moya and Mitchell showed up at the victim’s Sarasota home. Moya yelled for the victim “to come outside and fight,” police said.
When the victim refused, Moya picked up a wheelbarrow planter and threw it at a window, breaking it. Then, she kicked the front door in and the two women went into the home, police said.
The victim ran into her bedroom to get away from them, but Moya and Mitchell followed her. Moya hit and punched the woman and pulled her hair, SPD said. Mitchell tried to get her friend to stop the attack, but Moya pinned the victim to the ground and choked her.
Fearing for her life, the victim pulled out a gun and fired a single shot at the ceiling. Moya and Mitchell tried to wrestle the gun out of her hands. Mitchell eventually got ahold of the firearm and pistol whipped the victim, police said.
A roommate called 911, and the suspects left the scene with the gun and the victim’s cell phone.
Mitchell is out on bond, while Moya is in the Sarasota County Jail without bond.
