3 Killed After Driver Loses Control At Roundabout, Hits Tree In Sarasota: Police

Police believe speed was a factor in the single-vehicle crash that killed 3 people on Myrtle Road near the Old Bradenton Road roundabout.

SARASOTA, FL — Three people died in an early morning, single-vehicle crash in Sarasota Sunday.

Officers responded to the crash in the 1200 block of Myrtle Road about 12:30 a.m. They found three adults — one man and two women — had died from the crash, Sarasota police said in a news release.

Investigators believe the three people were friends who were visiting the Sarasota area. One woman was from Venice, while the man and other woman were from Brevard County.

Early investigation indicates that their vehicle was heading west on Myrtle Street, approaching the roundabout at Old Bradenton Road. For unknown reasons, the drive lost control, drove over the roundabout, through a fence and hit a tree, police said.

Officers believe that speed was a factor in the crash. Investigators are awaiting toxicology reports, which could take several weeks, police said.

The Sarasota Police Department’s Traffic Unit and Criminalistics Unit responded to the crash. It remains under investigation by the Traffic Unit.
