5 Nabbed In Shotgun, Machete, Crowbar Robbery In Sarasota

The Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office arrested five men who allegedly participated in an armed robbery -- using a shotgun, machete and crowbar -- early Thursday morning at a home in Sarasota.

The two male victims, 38 and 28 from Sarasota, reportedly were sitting in the rear of a house on the 2100 block of Dodge Avenue at about 4:45 a.m. when three males dressed in dark clothing and armed with the weapons jumped the fence and commanded the pair to "get on the ground," the Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office said.

One of the residents got into a brawl and was able to yank the shotgun from one intruder, who, in turn, pulled a necklace from the victim's neck, deputies said. The man, subsequently identified as Alen Beltran-Vazquez, was held down by the resident until law enforcement arrived, deputies said.

Four alleged accomplice suspects fled in a gray Lexus and were later apprehended by officials at a RaceTrac gas station at 5600 Fruitvale Road, the agency said,

The entire ordeal was caught on video surveillance, deputies said, adding that the shotgun, machete and crowbar were recovered at the scene.

Arrested were: Alen Beltran-Vazquez, 32, Greenacres, suspected possession of a firearm by convicted felon and armed robbery; Angel Cabrera-Basulto, 19, Lake Worth, suspected armed robbery; Ronier Jauregui-Lorente, 21, West Palm Beach, alleged armed robbery; Roberto Salcedo-Balanza, 22, West Palm Beach, suspected armed robbery; Jorge Valido-Leyva, 40, Lake Worth, suspected armed robbery.
