Venice Seafood & Music Festival

Venice MainStreet will host its second annual Venice Seafood & Music Festival Saturday, May 5 from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Sunday, May 6 from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. in Centennial Park, 200 W. Venice Ave., Venice.

There will be all types of seafood dishes prepared fresh onsite by local restaurants, meat and vegetarian dishes, an assortment of alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks and the sounds of live R&B, jazz, rock, Big Band, soul and Caribbean music.

This year’s performers are: Saturday, 11:30 a.m. - 1 p.m. RJ Howson, 1:30 p.m. - 3 p.m. Kettle of Fish, 3:30 p.m. - 5 p.m. the Sarasota Steel Pan Band and 5:30 p.m. - 7:30 p.m. Twinkle & Rock Soul Radio.

On Sunday, performers are: 11:30 a.m. - 1 p.m. Act 3, 1:30 p.m. - 3 p.m. Mac Arnold & Plate Full O’Blues, 3:30 p.m. - 5 p.m. Ari & the Alibis and 5:30 p.m. - 7:30 p.m. Reverend Barry & the Funk.

There will also be a marketplace of arts and crafts, gourmet food items and specialty products. Admission is free. Food and drink prices vary.

Sarasota Veg Fest

The inaugural Sarasota Veg Fest will take place Saturday, March 5, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Sarasota County Fairgrounds, 3000 Ringling Blvd., Sarasota.

The event will feature environmentally friendly vendors and exhibitors, vegan food, food demos, yoga classes, live music, a scavenger hunt, animal rescue groups and more. Admission is free.

Siesta Key Sand Sculpture Contest

Bring a pail, shovel, sunglasses and creativity to Siesta Key Public Beach for the 46th annual Siesta Key Sand Sculpture Contest Saturday, May 5.

Registration begins at 8:30 a.m. at Siesta Key Beach just south of the Pavilion. Judging commences at about 1 p.m. and winners are announced around 2 p.m. Judging is usually done by a local group of celebrities and/or art aficionados. Five cash prizes will be awarded.

Corvettes On The Circle

Corvettes from present-day models to the classics of 1953 will be on display for the 21st annual Corvettes on the Circle Saturday, May 5, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on St. Armand’s Circle, 300 Madison Drive.

More than 200 pristine and original Class Corvettes will be on display in the Circle Park. Trophies will be awarded to the top three Corvettes in each generational class as well as Best in Show. The awards ceremony is at 3 p.m. The event is free for spectators.

SRQ Magazine's Salsa de Mayo Festival

SRQ Magazine will host a Salsa de Mayo Festival Saturday, May 5, from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. outside of Morton’s Gourmet Market, 1924 S. Osprey Ave., in Southside Village, Sarasota.

Local chefs are invited to create an interpretive gourmet salsa to compete for the title of Best Handcrafted Salsa. Salsa de Mayo showcases innovative creations from fire-roasted poblano salsas to shrimp salsa ceviches. Tickets are $20. Click here for information.
