5 Things to do in Sarasota This Weekend (Sept. 30 - Oct. 2)

1. Sarasota 5000 Regatta

The Sarasota 5000 Regatta Boat Race is Sunday Oct. 2. This boat race begins at 8 a.m. and the action will last until at least noon. The Regatta is open to rowers from across the state. The Sarasota 5000 starts near Blackburn Point Park, just east of the historic swing bridge that is the northern bridge to Casey Key. The races include high school, college and master rowers. Admission is free.

2. Roller Disco Skate Party

Thinking about going retro this weekend? is hosting a roller disco skate party Saturday, Oct. 1 from 7:30 - 10 p.m. You are encourage to dress up in your best 70s gear and $25 will be give to the best dressed group. Admission is $7, plus skates. Must be at least 18 years old to enter.

3. Complete History of America (abridged)

performing arts students will present The Complete History of America (abridged) on Sept. 29, 30 at 7:30 p.m. and on Oct. 1 at 2 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. in the school’s Performing Arts Hall. Join the talented cast of Mooney’s fall comedy as they interpret landmark events in America’s history. Tickets are $5 or bring in two canned goods to donate to All Faiths Food Bank and see the show for free.

On Saturday, Oct. 1, from noon - 2 p.m. head to 5 Points Park in downtown Sarasota to help the Tampa Bay Lightning drop the puck on the 2011 NHL season. There will be a street hockey clinic, games, autograph signings and an opportunity to pose for pictures. Mayor Suzanne Atwell will officially welcome the Lightning as a city partner at 12:30 p.m.

5. Farmers Markets

The weather is supposed to be amazing this weekend, Sarasota. According to the National Weather Service, it's supposed to be sunny with the temperature in the mid 80s. Get outside! The downtown farmers market is from 7 a.m. - 12 p.m. along Lemon Avenue and State Street on Saturday. The Siesta Key farmers market is from 8 a.m. - 1 p.m. Sunday at the Siesta Village Plaza, 5124 Ocean Blvd.
