6 Stores Cited for Selling Alcohol to Kids

A total of 59 stores were visited by Sarasota County deputies last week.

The Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office has released the results of a two-night undercover operation staged to make sure local convenience and liquor stores follow the law in regard to underage alcohol sales.

Deputies from the Juvenile Alcohol Task Force staged the operation last Wednesday and Thursday evenings, visiting a total of 59 stores throughout the county. The following businesses were cited for selling alcohol to a person under the age of 21:

  • Citgo, 2201 Bee Ridge Road, Sarasota
  • Shell, 2800 Bee Ridge Road, Sarasota
  • Sunoco, 3190 Bee Ride Road, Sarasota
  • RaceTrac, 5600 Fruitville Road, Sarasota
  • Nokomis Liquor and Wine, 101 S. Tamiami Trail, Nokomis
  • American Pantry, 810 Colonia Lane, Nokomis

Clerks at all six stores were also issued misdemeanor notices to appear citations.

The 53 businesses that refused to sell to underage customers will receive letters to commend their actions, the sheriff’s office said.
