7 Boaters Rescued Off Longboat Key During Sarasota Grand Prix: USCG

LONGBOAT KEY, FL — Seven people were rescued from a capsized catamaran Saturday off Longboat Key, the U.S. Coast Guard Station Cortez wrote in a Facebook post.

A U.S. Coast Guard Air Station Clearwater helicopter crew and other agencies came to their rescue while on patrol during the Sarasota Powerboat Grand Prix races, which took place Friday through Sunday along Lido Beach. A good Samaritan also jumped in to help, the USCG said.

An injured person was brought to a hospital for care by a Town of Longboat Key fire marine crew, the agency added.
