Sarasota Man Lied About His Age To Have Sex With Underage Girl: Police (patch.com) — Sarasota readers are being urged to contact police if they have information about a 23-year-old local man accused of having sex with a 15-year-old girl he met on Snapchat. Investigators say he repeatedly brought the teen to his downtown Sarasota apartment, where the alleged crime occurred, and believe there may be additional victims in the area.    

2. Lee, Manatee Counties and Cape Coral Lift Burn Bans, While Sarasota and Charlotte Counties Remain Active (englewoodreview.com) — Sarasota County’s burn ban remains in full effect, meaning no bonfires, campfires, or yard-debris burning—only barbecue grilling is allowed—while Lee, Manatee, and Cape Coral have lifted their bans. With drought conditions still high locally, residents should follow county fire rules closely and check the Sarasota County Fire Department portal for any updates.    

3. Sarasota County gambling crackdown results in seizure of cash and slot machines (wftv.com) — Law enforcement shut down two suspected illegal gambling spots in Sarasota County this week, seizing 69 slot machines and more than $62,000 in cash. One location was on Clark Road in Sarasota and the other on South Tamiami Trail in Venice, and investigators say their probe into the operations is still underway.    

4. INN at Sarasota Bay Club received 4-star CMS rating among 22 for-profit nursing homes in Sarasota County in Q1 (sarasotareview.com) — If you’re considering long-term care in Sarasota County, the INN at Sarasota Bay Club just earned a four-star federal quality rating, beating the state average. The report also compares ratings, ownership, and resident counts across 22 local for‑profit nursing homes, giving families a clearer picture of nearby options as demand for elder care grows.    

5. Team USA BMX riders tune up in Sarasota for back-to-back World Cup races in Europe (mysuncoast.com) — Team USA BMX riders have been wrapping up high-intensity training sessions at Sarasota BMX on Tuttle Avenue before flying out for World Cup races in France and the Netherlands. The track, open to beginners through Olympic-level athletes, is also sending three Sarasota riders to the World Championships in Australia and planning a local fundraiser to help them get there.
