Record-Breaking Number Of Pets Found Homes At Sarasota Adoption Event

The Humane Society of Sarasota found homes for a record-breaking number of cats and dogs during a three-day adoption event.

SARASOTA, FL — The Humane Society of Sarasota saw a record-breaking number of pets get adopted over the weekend, the organization wrote in a social media post.

The agency hosted the Petco Love Florida Mega Adoption Event Friday through Sunday, calling it “the absolute best weekend matching pets with people.”

During the three-day event, 147 animals found homes, including 95 cats and 52 dogs, the Humane Society said.

“A record-breaking weekend. We are so incredibly grateful for all of the adopters who showed up and opened their home to an animal in need. Our hearts are so full,” the agency said.

At last year’s event, 122 were adopted over the three days.

Adoption fees were waived during the event, at a time when shelters across Florida are looking for homes for about 2,000 animals statewide, the organization said.
