SARASOTA, FL — The Sarasota Police Department continues to investigate shots fired during a Saturday afternoon altercation in the Booker High School campus parking lot.
Officers responded to the report of gunshots at the school around 2:20 p.m., SPD said in a news release.
There were no injuries and no other details have been released by investigators.
The shooting happened during an outside event on campus, principal Jamal Crook said in a message to Booker High School families.
“The incident that occurred on our campus involved an outside organization that had rented Booker High School’s athletic facilities. This was not a Booker High School event and was not affiliated with our students, staff, or any school-sponsored activity,” Crook wrote.
He added, “Let me be clear in my expectations: any individual or organization granted the privilege of using Booker High School facilities is expected to uphold the same high standards of safety, responsibility, and respect that we demand of our own students, staff, and families. Behaviors that jeopardize the safety of others or undermine those expectations will not be tolerated under any circumstances.”
Anyone with information is asked to contact the Sarasota Police Department Criminal Investigations Division at 941-915-4307 or Sarasota Crime Stoppers at 941-366-TIPS (8477).
