SARASOTA COUNTY, FL — A North Port man was killed Friday night after his car rear-ended another vehicle on Interstate 75 before leaving the roadway and crashing into a tree, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
Authorities said the crash occurred shortly after 8:50 p.m. Friday near mile marker 177 on I-75.
According to police, a 34-year-old North Port man was driving a Chevrolet Impala in the outside northbound lane when he failed to slow down for traffic ahead. The front right side of the Impala struck the left rear of a Toyota driven by a 31-year-old Homestead man.
After the collision, the Impala left the roadway and hit a tree, authorities said.
The Impala's driver was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Toyota driver was not injured.
The crash remains under investigation.
