SARASOTA, FL — A firefighter with the Sarasota County Fire Department went home Thursday, four days after being hospitalized following a medical emergency he suffered while battling a house fire, the agency said in a news release.
Nearly 100 fellow firefighters, EMTs, paramedics and other first responders greeted Lt. Clay Huber as he was discharged from Sarasota Memorial Hospital.
The crowd sent him home with cheers and applause.
"We are incredibly grateful for the outpouring of support from our community, partner agencies, and everyone who has kept Lt. Huber, his family and our personnel in their thoughts," the department said. "His homecoming is a powerful reminder of the strength of the fire service family and the community we are proud to serve."
Huber was hospitalized Sunday after experiencing a medical issue while crews responded to a structure fire in the 1000 block of Herndon Place.
