When you park in a public parking space within the City of Sarasota, as in most cities, your license plate might be verified by parking enforcement and police personnel. By Florida statute, and local ordinance, it is enforcement personnel’s duty to verify that vehicles parking in city lots, streets, and garages have valid license plates. In Florida, license plates are only required on the back end of cars, and not the front end. In some parking areas, like Bayfront Park and the Palm Avenue Parking Garage, there are many pedestrians walking around, so back-in parking is not allowed for safety and operational efficiency reasons. (The exception is on Gulfstream Avenue, where signs clearly indicate reverse angle parking is permissible.) Please read and abide by all posted signs throughout the City of Sarasota as it pertains to parking and avoid being ticketed.
