Area Businesswoman Launches The Personal Safety Net
Automated service offers peace of mind for active adults who live alone

Local entrepreneur Debbie Trice has launched The Personal Safety Net, an automated service for healthy adults who value their freedom but want security, too. With The Personal Safety Net, members log into the company website daily. If the member does not log in by a pre-selected deadline and doesn’t answer the phone, a company representative will contact a series of trusted friends and/or family members to assume responsibility for getting whatever help the member may need. Through automation and the empowerment of family and friends, The Personal Safety Net offers peace of mind at a price nearly anyone can afford.
Most adults who live alone block out concerns that days can pass before anyone will miss them enough to actually check on them. As long as there was no low-cost, non-intrusive safety net which preserved their privacy and freedom of movement, it was better just not to think about potential problems. Until now. Now they have The Personal Safety Net.
“This is not your grandmother’s emergency help button,” Trice said. “And you don’t need a smartphone, either. All you need is access to the Internet for a few seconds each day to check in.”
A pilot program has been established to raise awareness of the product, and to validate the need in the community. A goal of 500 participants has been set with a deadline of June 30, 2015. Participants can enjoy a 30-day free trial and then make a single payment of $30 to continue the service until the pilot program concludes. Members are encouraged to weigh in on their experience and suggest enhancements to the service.
One side benefit of The Personal Safety Net is how it impacts circles of friends who participate together. “One wonderful by-product of this service is that it helps to strengthen existing friendships by formalizing women’s willingness to look after one another,” said Trice. “Many people may think that their families, friends or even their neighbors will just know when something might be amiss but, even if they do, will they feel empowered to get the spare key and actually come in? With The Personal Safety Net, they will know without a doubt that it’s time to see if you need any help.”
The Personal Safety Net can also be a valuable tool for family caregivers. If the person cared for – perhaps someone with dementia or an infant – can not summon help for you, The Personal Safety Net will make sure that someone you trust will check on both of you.
