Awake the State Rally Today

The anti-Gov. Rick Scott protest will be held from 4:30-6 p.m. at Sarasota's bayfront.

Sarasota's bayfront has been a hotspot for political protests lately. For the last three Saturdays, has been occupying by the Unconditional Surrender statue.

From 4:30-6 tonight, and exactly one year before the 2012 general election, the Awake the State rally will be staged at Sarasota's bayfront.

The Sarasota rally is one of 15 statewide anti-Rick Scott protests happening today.

In a press release to supporters, the organization writes the protest is, "to begin mobilizing the area’s middle class to fight Rick Scott’s extremist anti-middle class agenda, stop his puppets in the Legislature, and return middle class values and priorities to our government in 2012. Similar Awake The State rallies are being held throughout the state to mobilize Florida’s middle class."

There will be three or four guest speakers at today's event.

At an , at the same location, author Stephen King made a surprise guest appearance and said, "Maybe my next horror novel could star Rick Scott."
