SARASOTA, FL — Missing the bus and being late for the first day of school is “no excuse” for speeding in a school zone, Sarasota police reminded residents on the first day of school.

But that’s exactly the excuse one parent gave an officer after being caught going 53 mph in a 15 mph zone, the Sarasota Police Department wrote in a Facebook post.

The driver, who was pulled over near Tuttle Avenue and Browning Street, was ticketed and given “an automatic court date,” the agency said.
