Body Found Morning After Shooting: Sarasota County Sheriff

A death investigation related to a Thursday night shooting in the 2400 block of 23rd Street in Sarasota is underway, deputies said.

SARASOTA, FL — A death investigation related to a Thursday night shooting in the 2400 block of 23rd Street in Sarasota is underway, authorities said.

Deputies responded to reports of shots fired in the area just before 11 p.m., according to a Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office news release.

While no injuries were initially reported, one of the bullets hit a television inside a nearby home.

The sheriff's K-9 Unit, along with deputies, searched the area, but no suspects or victims were found, the sheriff’s office said.

Witnesses told investigators that several people fled the area around the time the shots were heard. A red four-door sedan was seen leaving the area at the same time.

Deputies checked local hospitals for gunshot victims, but didn’t find any.

A dead body found in the area of the shooting was reported to the sheriff’s office Friday just after 8 a.m.

There is no threat to the community, the agency said.
