Boy Lost Baseball Cards At Orioles Spring Training Game, Team Tries To Help Find Them

A young baseball fan lost his prized, signed baseball card collection at the Yankees vs. Orioles spring training game at Ed Smith Stadium.

SARASOTA, FL — After a boy lost his baseball card collection at the New York Yankees vs. Baltimore Orioles spring training game on March 19, the Orioles and others have rallied to help him find his most prized possession.

The young baseball fan, Elyjah, brought his binder of baseball cards, some of them valuable, to Ed Smith Stadium in Sarasota hoping to get them signed after the game, his mother, Colleen, wrote on Facebook.

Among his collection was a card signed by Yankees infielder DJ LeMahieu.

“This meant a lot to him,” his mother wrote. “(Elyjah) has earned the nickname DJ from his little league coach because of their similar style of play.”

He also had a card autographed by Yankees third baseman Josh Donaldson.

Elyjah was looking forward to adding to this collection at the game, but “in all of his excitement, he accidentally dropped his book of baseball cards and when he realized that, it was gone,” Colleen wrote. “He has achieved his collection from birthday money, Christmas presents, rewards, and purchased (them) with his own money.”

Her son “is devastated and we are heartbroken for him,” she added.

As of Friday afternoon, her post has nearly 2,000 shares on Facebook and hundreds of likes and comments. His mother hopes that with all of the social media attention, her son might be reunited with his baseball card collection.

The baseball community is rallying around Elyjah, as well.

The Orioles retweeted about his missing baseball cards, asking fans to help them track down the binder.

Topps, a trading card company, also tweeted that they could send “some goodies” to Elyjah.

Twitter users, collaborating with the Suncoast News Network, are also asking baseball fans to donate cards from their collection to Elyjah by sending them to: Attention: Elyjah Cards, 2040 6th Street, Sarasota, FL 34237.
