Bradenton Men Seriously Injured in Sarasota Box Truck Crash

The wreck happened on southbound Interstate 75 early Wednesday morning.

A 36-year-old Bradenton man and his 27-year-old passenger suffered serious injuries in an accident that took place Wednesday morning along Interstate 75 Wednesday morning.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, Nahshon Smith was heading southbound on I-75 in the right lane near Fruitville Road in an Isuzu box truck, riding directly behind an Acura driven by Michael Yencik, 41, of Lakewood Ranch. For an unknown reason, the box truck hit the Acura, went onto the shoulder and struck a tree.

Smith was airlifted to Blake Medical Center with serious injuries. His passenger, Derrick Smith, was transported to Doctors Hospital, also with serious injuries.

Yencik and two children, ages 10 and 7, were uninjured.

The cause of the crash remains unknown at this time and charges are pending.
