League of Women Voters Sarasota County and Suncoast Searchlight Host Candidate Forum Ahead of August Election
Candidates appearing on the August 18, 2026, Primary ballot for Sarasota County School Board Districts 1 &amp; 4 have been invited to this Sarasota County League of Women Votersand Suncoast Searchlight hosted forum.
The Sarasota County School Board is a non-partisan race. Therefore, this election will be the only School Board election this year. 
 
In person attendance is encouraged, however, seating is limited so arrive early to secure your seat. Please invite your friends and neighbors and share our social media posts. 
 
All forums will be live-streamed and recorded for viewing on the League’s <a href="https://lwvsrq.org/handlers/celinks.ashx?id=157906" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">YouTube Channel</a>. 
A candidate Meet &amp; Greet will follow each forum. 
 
The League of Women Voters does not support or oppose any political party or any candidate.

Eddie has been singing and playing piano since he was eight years old. Attending the University of Miami, Eddie was in the Studio Music and Jazz Piano program. He entertained around the country and on cruise ships. Spending 15 great years in Nashville accompanying the Forester Sisters, who opened for Kenny Rogers, and traveling with Brenda Lee. For seven and a half years, Eddie was music director, pianist, conductor, and arranger for Engelbert Humperdinck. You’ll hear some jazz, blues, standards, ragtime, classical, pop, calypso, and country music. People will enjoy his renditions of songs by Jimmy Buffett, Leon Russell, Ray Charles, and Johnny Cash.

Is the next financial disaster on its way? In the last 200 years, the United States has had 10 financial panics — more than any industrialized country in the world, except for Argentina — with one common feature. Most never saw them coming. Panics in 1819, 1837, 1857, 1873, 1893, 1907, 1929, 1989, and 2008 each followed a similar economic pattern that we can see being repeated today. Could it be that the dollars being thrown at cryptocurrencies and artificial intelligence are turbocharging an already heated economy and making it susceptible to collapse? This lecture will explain how financial disasters are created, who is responsible, and what you can do to prepare for the next one. This lecture is drawn from Thomas Vartanian’s book, 200 Years of American Financial Panics.

July 4 Parade, Picnic &amp; Fireworks, July 4, 9:30 a.m. to 9 p.m.
The city of Venice will celebrate its centennial and the nation’s 250th anniversary with a day of patriotic festivities on July 4.&nbsp;
The day kicks off with a downtown Parade starting at 9:30 a.m.&nbsp;
This will be followed by a community picnic at the Venice Community Center and West Blalock Park. This event includes hot dogs, music and dancing, face painting, and a watermelon-eating contest.&nbsp;
The day ends with fireworks shot off from South Jetty at 9 p.m. The best places to view the display are from Venice Beach, Brohard Beach and the Gulf.
