Car Drives On Sidewalk To Avoid Sarasota Rush Hour Traffic: Watch

"We really shouldn't have to say this, but you are not supposed to drive a motor vehicle on the sidewalk," the Sarasota County sheriff said.

SARASOTA, FL — Dashcam video caught a car driving on the sidewalk to avoid Sarasota’s rush hour traffic Tuesday morning, authorities said.

To avoid traffic congestion, the driver traveled down the sidewalk in the 8000 block of Fruitville Road, according to a Facebook post by the Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office.

The driver, who was not identified, was given a traffic citation for driving on the sidewalk, the department said on Facebook.

A deputy with the agency’s Patrol Bureau was sent to the same area in the video Wednesday morning and saw the car driving on the sidewalk around 7 a.m. to avoid backed-up traffic. The car traveled down the sidewalk before the driver saw the deputy and pulled back onto Fruitville Road, the sheriff’s office said.

As the car turned into the driveway where the deputy was parked, the car was pulled over, the sheriff's office said.

“We really shouldn’t have to say this, but you are not supposed to drive a motor vehicle on the sidewalk. It's illegal and extremely dangerous,” the sheriff's office said.
