A pick-up truck with a towing trailer was unoccupied and stopped on the inside I-75 paved shoulder because of a flat trailer tire on the right side, the FHP said in July. Seven men who had been in the truck were standing outside the truck to help with the tire change.

A car traveling southbound on I-75 veered from the highway into the shoulder, hitting the pick-up truck and striking and killing four of the men, FHP said.

At the time, the driver of the car was described as a 34-year-old woman from Lakeland. She and her passenger, a 32-year-old man, also from Lakeland, were uninjured in the crash, FHP said.
