Restaurants and bars in the Sarasota area are celebrating Cinco de Mayo Thursday with Mexican cuisine, margaritas and more.

SARASOTA, FL — For those hoping to celebrate Cinco de Mayo with local food and drink specials, there are plenty of opportunities in the Sarasota area.

The Mexican holiday commemorates the country’s May 5, 1862, victory over France at the Battle of Puebla. This year, it falls on Thursday, May 5.

Though it’s a relatively minor holiday in Mexico, many in the U.S. embraces it as a celebration of Mexican culture and heritage, according to History.com.
