City Continuing Efforts to Become 'Pro-Business'

A "Succeed in Sarasota" package will be mailed to businesses which register for a new local business tax receipt after Oct. 1,. On average, ten new business tax receipts are issued per week.

As part of a new business friendly climate, the city of Sarasota is now sending a welcome package to new business owners and thanking them for doing business in the city limits. The new program, called “Succeed in Sarasota”, was launched last week as a gesture to merchants and service providers to highlight the city’s commitment to local businesses succeeding in Sarasota, a news release said.

According to the news release, included in each package will be a letter from Mayor Suzanne Atwell explaining that at City Hall; the permitting process is being simplified and water/sewer impact fees are now suspended for the next ten years. “We have a new a mindset,” Atwell said. “This is our way of welcoming businesses to our city. Every business owner has choices on where to locate, and we want to recognize those who choose Sarasota. We appreciate them and we hope they succeed in Sarasota.”

The “Succeed in Sarasota” welcome package contains information about City of Sarasota venues, such as the , and -- all places merchants should consider visiting whether for business or pleasure. Businesses also will have the opportunity to receive a complimentary news release from City Hall announcing their new store, restaurant or service. They’re also encouraged to watch the City’s new television program, “City Business”, which features interesting businesses throughout the city limits.

“‘Succeed in Sarasota’ of the city commission,” said City Auditor and Clerk Pamela Nadalini in a press release. “The Commissioners want to create a welcoming atmosphere for businesses and we’re literally going to welcome new businesses. It’s a gesture, which I anticipate, will resound positively in the business community.”
