SARASOTA, FL — Sarasota City Hall was evacuated Tuesday afternoon after an employee received a suspicious envelope, authorities said.

The Sarasota Police Department’s Explosive Materials Unit responded to city hall to investigate the envelope, police shared on Facebook. During this time, 2nd Street was closed between Orange and Lemon avenues.

Investigators determined that the envelope wasn’t a threat. The investigation remains ongoing, police said.

The evacuation at city hall was lifted just after 4 p.m. and the street reopened to traffic and the public, SPD said.
