Convicted Duck Killer Gets Jail Time

The Florida landscaper mowed down a family of ducks.

A 24-year-old Palm Beach County landscaper who mowed down a family of ducks earlier this year will serve jail time for the act.

A Palm Beach County judge sentenced Jason Scott Falbo II last week to one year behind bars and three years of probation after Falbo pleaded guilty to felony animal cruelty charges, court records indicate. Falbo is receiving 90 days credit on that sentence for time already served.

The incident that led to Falbo’s arrest and sparked national headlines unfolded in Wellington on May 2. A family there called police, saying Falbo used a riding lawnmower to mow down a family of ducks. Nine ducklings, only a few days old, were killed as a result. Two ducklings and their mother survived.

The family that called police said they and their 7-year-old son witnessed the act. Resident Boyd Jentzsch also said he and his family watched as Falbo changed directions on the mower to run over the ducks, back up and run them over again, The Sun Sentinel reported back in May. Falbo, Jentzsch said, was laughing as he did so.

ā€œWe were horrified,ā€ Jentzsch was quoted by the paper as saying.

Falbo initially contended he couldn’t see the ducks, but he pleaded guilty last week to nine counts of animal cruelty.

Falbo will serve his time out at the Palm Beach County Jail.
