Cop Dissed by Arby's Treated to Free Food

McDonald's and others have shown their support to the Pembroke Pines Police Department. Arby's has also rolled out its own event.

A Pembroke Pines police officer who was refused service at a local Arby’s supposedly because she ordered in uniform has scored an outpouring of support from the community and Arby’s itself.

News of the alleged refusal of service for Sgt. Jennifer Martin broke Wednesday and resulted in an immediate backlash from law enforcement supporters across the country. Arby’s corporate was quick to apologize for what it called an isolated incident and has since reportedly disciplined the employee and terminated the manager.

The incident unfolded Tuesday evening when Martin attempted to order food from the Pembroke Pine Arby’s. When the employee who took the order became too busy to complete it, the store’s manager reportedly told Martin he had refused to serve her because she’s a cop, the Sun Sentinel. The comment, the paper reported, was an attempt at a joke that left no one laughing.

Meanwhile, the show of support for the Pembroke Pines Police Department hasn’t gone unnoticed by its officers.

“The entire PPPD would like to thank everyone for the outpouring of support we have continued to receive,” the agency wrote on Facebook Thursday.

It seems the agency has been showered with free food, cards and more since the story about the Tuesday night incident was made public.

“We truly appreciate all the kind words, cards, and surprise breakfasts/lunches you brought to our officers,” the Facebook post continued. A special shout out was given to McDonald’s, Whole Foods Market and MagicMiami radio station. “We’re proud and honored for being a part of such an amazing community.”

Arby’s also rolled out a law enforcement appreciation event in response to Tuesday’s incident.

“Please accept our sincerest apology for the recent incident that occurred at our Arby’s restaurant in Pembroke Pines, FL,” a media release stated. “This isolated incident does not represent Arby’s Restaurant Group views and Arby’s values.”

To show its appreciation to law enforcement, the restaurant was offering free combo meals to any Dade-Broward County metro area officers who showed up in uniform Friday.
