Coronavirus Closes McCurdy’s Comedy Theatre A Second Time
After closing in March at the start of the pandemic, the comedy club reopened in November. Now, it's closed again.
SARASOTA, FL — In March, at the start of the coronavirus pandemic, McCurdy’s Comedy Theatre in Sarasota was among many entertainment venues that closed. Their doors remained shut until Nov. 20, when they reopened to limited capacity.
Now, the comedy club has closed a second time until further notice.
“After opening for several weeks with low attendance, we concluded that the majority of our community is not quite yet ready to return to live comedy,” owners Pam and Les McCurdy said in a statement posted to the club’s website.

They also announced a plan to introduce virtual comedy shows through its new streaming service, McCurdy’s Laff Trak. The first comedy special available features comedians Helen Keany, Vinnie Ward and Al Ernst. Videos can be rented for $7.99 or purchased for $9.99.
The virtual shows are “a great way for you to support your comedy theatre, as well as enjoy a live show in the comfort of your own home,” the McCurdys said.
