County Connects to Community with Facebook

Additional Facebook pages will be activated for county programs, services and activities in the next few months.

Sarasota County has significantly expanded its use of Facebook with the launch of two new pages. The county’s primary page is called Sarasota County Community Connections. The other new page is Sarasota County Hurricane Center.

The county also uses Twitter to send information about storm safety and weather updates. Almost 1,500 people follow alerts by Ed McCrane, county emergency management chief.

The county’s new sites have a wide variety of news and information – news, programs and services, workshops and public hearings, and county events and activities. Site postings also contain include links to videos, along with photos and other information.

People can follow the county Facebook pages by clicking on the “Like” button at the top of the county Facebook pages. That will deliver the county posts to their personal Facebook pages. The Hurricane Center and Library pages also are available from links in the “Likes” section on the left side of the Community Connections page.
