Dog In Distress Rescued From Hot Car By Sarasota Police Recruit
Moose the dog was left in a hot car at St. Armands Circle for more than an hour. The car's temperature reached 111 degrees, police said.
SARASOTA, FL — Sarasota police rescued a dog locked for more than an hour in a hot car with temperatures reaching 111 degrees at St. Armands Circle Sunday.
A citizen called 911 after finding Moose, the dog, “in distress” in the locked car, police tweeted.
Sarasota police Recruit Officer Mang responded to the call, breaking the window to rescue Moose.

The Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office’s Animal Services department also responded to the scene and said that Moose would have overheated if he wasn’t removed from the car, police said.

Police gave Moose water and made sure he recovered in air conditioning.

His owner and her boyfriend left him in the car while they walked around St. Armands Circle and ate lunch. They thought they left the car running, but “turns out that wasn’t the case,” Sarasota police said.
Moose’s owner, who received a ticket from Animal Services, “was extremely grateful, thankful and apologetic,” police said.
While this incident had a “pawsitive ending,” it serves as a good reminder “as temperatures begin to warm up (to) check for kids, pets and elderly loved ones when you leave your vehicle," Sarasota police said.
