Driver Killed In Fiery SUV Crash In Sarasota County: FL Highway Patrol

A man was killed Thursday morning after losing control of his SUV, which caught fire, on a Sarasota County road, FL Highway Patrol said.

SARASOTA COUNTY, FL — A Sarasota man was killed after losing control of his SUV on State Road 72/Clark Road Thursday morning, according to a Florida Highway Patrol news release.

The 34-year-old was heading east on the road, near Swift Road, when he lost control and drove across the raised median into the westbound lanes just after 7 a.m.

He continued heading northwest, driving onto the curbed shoulder of the road and hitting a light pole, FHP said. He kept going and then the left front of his SUV hit a sign post, causing the vehicle to rotate.

The SUV became engulfed in flames after the crash, the agency said. The driver was pronounced dead at the scene by Sarasota County EMS.

The crash is being investigated by the Florida Highway Patrol Traffic Homicide Unit.
