DUI Manslaughter Charge Filed In Fatal Sarasota County Crash: FHP

SARASOTA COUNTY, FL — An Englewood driver was charged with manslaughter while driving under the influence in a fatal Sarasota Crash that left a 19-year-old motorcyclist dead on Thanksgiving, according to a Florida Highway Patrol news release.

Michael Burke Risley, 46, of Englewood was driving an SUV north in the left turn lane of State Road 776, approaching the intersection of 1st Avenue, just before 7 p.m.

At the same time, the motorcyclist, also of Englewood, was heading south in the left lane of State Road 776, approaching the same intersection.

Risley turned left in front of the motorcycle, hitting it head-on. The motorcyclist was pronounced dead at the scene, FHP said.

Risley, who was uninjured in the crash, was arrested and booked into Sarasota County Jail. The crash remains under investigation.
