Art Uptown, Sarasota’s oldest artist-owned fine art gallery, presents “Axis of Symmetry,” a solo exhibit of digital art by Bradenton artist Barrington R. DeMers, April 1 to 27. An opening reception is scheduled for Sunday, April 1, 2-5 pm at the gallery at 3167 Main St., Sarasota. The public is welcome.
A past president of Art Uptown, Bary creates his art using computers and digital equipment. “Some of my art originates from the real world through digital photography, but many of my images are straight from my imagination, resulting from my exploration of the creative possibilities available through this art form,” he related.
“During this observation and creative process, I come across images that move me. Those I print to share with others,” he continued, noting that the theme of the exhibit is the digital mandala. The images represent a continuation of his kaleidoscopic work entitled “The Beautiful Dream Watcher” that he created for a 1999 art exhibition at the Digital Fine Arts Society.

For that show, he created a working interactive digital kaleidoscope that enabled the viewer, using a trackball and computer program, to view kaleidoscopic mirror reflections on the screen like a traditional hand-held kaleidoscope,” he explained. “Now I have brought these images to the art world in the form of prints using start of the art printers and archival pigmented inks.”
Bary has had many exhibitions in the southwest Florida area and has won numerous awards and honors. Known by his friends as the "the pixel pusher" because he paints digitally by moving pixels of color on the computer screen with digital paint brushes, he prints his images as giclée prints on artist’s canvas and fine art papers.
