Eli Groner, Israel's Economic Attache to the US presents "Miracle in the Desert: Israel's Economy"

Eli Groner, Israel’s Minister of Economic Affairs to the United States, has scheduled a stop in Sarasota on January 18 at Temple Beth Israel on Longboat Key. His presentation, “Miracle in the Desert: Israel’s Economy,” is one of his first public appearances since accepting the appointment last August.

As the holder of Israel’s top economic position abroad, Groner will address the platforms and policies that have spurred Israel’s economic successes. A former a consultant
at McKinsey & Company, where he served a breadth of Fortune 1000 corporations from around the world, Groner will provide unique insights and expert analysis from both a global and insider’s perspective.

This presentation will begin at 7:30pm followed by a speaker’s reception. It is free and open to the public. Reservations are suggested.

Eli Groner is Israel’s Minister for Economic Affairs to the United States, based in Washington, D.C. Confirmed by the Israeli Cabinet for this position in August 2011, Mr. Groner came to the diplomatic role by way of the private sector, where he worked most recently in private equity and management consulting.

Prior to his appointment, Mr. Groner served as a special advisor to the Chairman of Tnuva, one of Israel’s largest
food manufacturers and distributors, and one of the country’s most well-known companies. In his role, he developed and oversaw implementation of its three-year strategic plan, and sat on a number of the organization’s steering committees.

From 2003-2009, Mr. Groner was a consultant at McKinsey & Company where he focused on strategy, marketing and operations for some of the world’s leading technology, healthcare, financial services, and consumer packaged goods companies. While at McKinsey, Mr. Groner was also selected to lead firm-wide training for early tenure consultants.

Mr. Groner started his career as a journalist at The Jerusalem Post, where he served as a finance and economics correspondent, as well as overseeing digital content when its website was established. He was also a summer investment banking associate at Lehman Brothers in New York, where he worked on mergers and acquisitions.

He spent several years playing for Israel’s national fast pitch softball team, where he participated in the European Championships, and won a Bronze Medal at the 1993 Maccabiah Games, where he led the team in On Base and Slugging percentages.

Eli served in the paratrooper corps from 1989-1992, where he received a citation for outstanding performance and
exemplary leadership.

Mr. Groner has an MBA from New York University where he was a Director’s Fellow, as well as a Teaching Fellow for the school’s dean, and a BA in political science from Bar-Ilan University.

Born in the United States, Eli immigrated to Israel with his family when he was 15. He is married to Tamar and they have five children.
