Do you love playing with books and making them into art? Altering books is both a visual and tactile experience. In an altered book, the artist transforms a hardback book into a work of art, by physically altering the book. Students will learn how to create a unique piece of art by taking an old discarded book through a thoroughly enjoyable and artistically “messy” process of tearing, collaging, painting, gluing combined with unique random acts of folding, pleating, stitching, adding and removing elements. The end result is an individually personalized statement in the form of BOOK ART for journaling, displaying and/or gifting.

After earning a BFA from Douglas College, Jill Krasner began her professional career as a commercial artist in New York City. Marriage and children brought her to Washington, DC, where she worked for the next two decades in broadcasting. Eventually, a hunger to return to fine arts and crafts led Jill to leave the corporate world to start “making art” a full-time endeavor. She is deeply committed to recycling and repurposing found materials in her art. She shares her Sarasota home and studio with her special muse, her dog, Clayton.
