Sarasota Mobility Fair

The City of Sarasota invites interested citizens to attend a Mobility Fair Saturday, April 9, 2011.  The free program will feature interactive exhibits as well as brainstorming sessions and a forum to develop community priorities for future transportation plans and improvements. This event will kick off an 18-month city-wide process to establish current perceptions and future goals for how the City addresses transportation needs.

Doors will open and registration begins at 8:30 a.m. The Mobility Fair will begin with a brief overview presentation from 9-9:45 a.m. in the Commission Chambers at City Hall, 1565 First St. Sarasota. Between 10-11:30 a.m., small group discussions and hands-on activities will follow in the Annex next to City Hall. The schedule will conclude with a summary of findings from the morning, next steps and a timeline from 11:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Refreshments will be served.

Transportation and mobility are included among the top priorities of the City Commission. The goals for this area of the community include "improving all modes of City wide mobility, including pedestrian, bicycle, vehicular and shared public transit." Other community focus areas include budget & finance, environmental sustainability, quality of life, and economic development. Smart transportation planning can contribute to success in all five focus areas.
