Family Inn Shooting Now a Murder Investigation, Cops Say

The 18-year-old shot during an incident at Sarasota’s Family Inn has died.

The Sarasota Police Department announced the development in the case Tuesday afternoon following Quenton Spears’ death.

The shooting occurred around 3:30 p.m. Saturday at the 4807 N. Tamiami Trail hotel. Spears was visiting the inn when he was shot by Devontae H. Robinson, police said in an email to media.

Robinson, also 18, was initially charged with attempted murder and tampering with evidence. Those charges have since been upgraded to murder, jail records indicate.

Further details in the case, including the relationship between Spears and Robinson are not yet available.

Robinson remained in the Sarasota County Jail Tuesday without bond.
