Fishing Deputy Reels In Cocaine Worth $10 Million

Charlotte County deputy was fishing off the Gulf Coast last week when he made the 50-pound catch. FBI is helping investigation.

An off-duty deputy with the Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office didn’t have any fish to show after a trip last week out on the Gulf, but he did reel in a surprise find: $10 million worth of cocaine.

Charlotte County investigators are working with the FBI to determine the point of origin of the 50-pound package of uncut powdered cocaine, according to Sheriff Bill Prummell.

“That amount of cocaine has a current street value of $2.5 million,” Prummell said in a message on Facebook. “Once it’s cut, it can be anywhere between $10 million and $12 million street value.”
