Five Ways to Remember 9/11 This Weekend
There are several 9/11 memorials and ceremonies along the Suncoast this weekend.
1. Sarasota 9/11 Memorial
The city of Sarasota will be from the World Trade Center on Sunday at the entrance of the Sarasota Police Department. The memorial is also in honor of Officer Warren David Jones who is the only Sarasota police officer that has ever been killed in the line of duty. The event begins at 8:30am. At 8:46 a.m. there will be a moment of silence at the exact time 10 years ago when the first plane flew into the North Tower.
2. Memorial March

Following the unveiling there will be a Memorial March at 10:30 a.m. starting at Main Street and Pineapple Ave and ending at . At the park there will be guest speakers, live music, children's activities and local vendors. The event lasts until 6:30 p.m.
3. 9/11 Remembrance Concert

At 7:30 Saturday night and Sunday at 2:30 p.m., head to the Van Wezel for a to honor our country and remember 9/11. The Sarasota Orchestra in partnership with the Van Wezel produces the event. The concert features touching and uplifting orchestral, choral and solo vocal performances, dramatic video footage and inspirational readings. Admission is $10-$35 and proceeds benefit first responder charities.
4. Lakewood Ranch Remembers 9/11
On Saturday from 5 - 8 p.m. at Premiere Sports Campus, at the intersection of SR 70 & Lorraine, there will presentations and comments will be shared from public officials, along with patriotic music to commemorate the 10th anniversary of 9/11. The ceremony includes 2,752 placed flags to represent those who lost their lives on 9/11.
5. Ceremony to Remember The 9/11 Victims & Fallen Military
In Venice on Sunday, 2 p.m. - 4:30 p.m. there will be an event to honor the lives lost on 9/11. The American Legion Honor Guard advances the colors at 3 p.m., followed with The Pledge of Allegiance, the invocation and the ringing of the bell. The bell will ring five times, once for the civilians killed on 9/11, once for the firefighters, once for the police responders, once for the EMS responders and once for the military. There will be a few brief words presented by city officials, Sarasota County officials and supporters of the 9/11 Victims and Fallen Military Heroes Memorial. Patriots Park is located at 257 N. Tamiami Trail in Venice.
